My name is Jeff Tanner.
I love working in the wood shop and making things!

My shop and woodworking efforts are currently on hold. I moved from Florida to Michigan in 2010. At this time my tools are in storage as I look for a proper facility in which to once again start making items.

That's me, the one in the back.

A few years older than the top photo.

I started making stuff for my family and myself about ten years ago soon after moving to Citrus County, Florida. I was fortunate to have a nice place and a room for a wood shop. I had a lot of tools and have been adding to them as time goes by. I don't think any wood worker can do anything but that, it's a type of disease.

I was happy making the stuff we wanted and needed. I made many things for my Florida home and the "ranch" that was part of that. But, as time went on, we don't need as many things built as often. By that I mean for example: I had made three nice big planter boxes for the places we needed. Now, I don't need any more planter boxes but would love to make more of them. With these "made it, don't need another one" events taking place, it occurred to me that others may like the things I make. Friends and relatives all loved the stuff I had made. I thought about it for a couple of years and finally decided, yup, I'd like to do that - make stuff for other people.

Now, I'm doing that. However, the way I make stuff is not "normal". I take great care in everything I make. I don't want to make a planter box. I want to make a great planter box. I don't want to make a bench. I want to make a great bench. This is something I have finally learned of myself over the years. I take care in what I do or I won't do it. I emphasize quality over speed. That is the only way I can do it. I have tried to "speed up" a project or make it cheaper in some way. That has lead to failure, dis-satisfaction or in-ability (meaning, I could not make it bad, I had to put in the extra touches even though I told myself not to). So ... I offer that patience and commitment to be better than the rest. If that is what you are looking for, we may have some great mutual projects. If you need it fast or cheap, I'm the wrong guy.

Jeff Tanner Artistic Concepts, Inc. came to be in 1987. I was trained in fine arts: drawing, painting, design, carving, metal working, silk screening, graphic design and many other creative fields. Over the years I have some degree of exposure and experience in many art techniques and processes. All these experiences have come in play in making me who I am today. For most of my professional life I have worked as a graphic designer and illustrator. I now specialized in web site design and development. The computer work and the woodworking are a very good combination. Each refreshes the other. I do enjoy both and when one gets me burned out, I work in the other to refresh myself and then return.
