This piece is one of very, very few items that I have made which followed a plan exactly. This item was just perfect as designed and I saw no need to change the plan in any way.
I made the centerpiece for my wife as a Christmas gift. It is beautiful (as she is).
I do not make candles or glass candle cups of course, so the items were purchased before the project was started to assure that the holes were the proper size.
The design is interesting and unique, but the star of the show is the wood itself. I bought a chunk of maple and a chunk of mahogany. The beautiful color and grain on each of these wood species really make this piece.
