Deck Entrance Steps

Simple Story:

deck steps

This project was one I had to do. We had an open pool which was screened in recently. Our deck was open to the pool before and encased on the back by railing and lattice work. After the screen became a reality, it made no sense. I knew when we screened it I would end up doing something. I thought about it a while and came up with what you see in the photo. I cut out one section of the rail and lattice and put in steps so now it is an enviting sitting and barbeque area facing a small planting area in the back yard. Worked out real nice.

A simple step would have done it, but that's too easy and not very attractive. I made this multilevel entrace platform with wide steps and varying the widths as you step out. Also, built stronger than needed with 4 x 4 bracing holding it all together and every board is held by screws rather than the more common nailing method. All the edges are rounded off for safety and to look nice. Unfinished, within a matter of months it will age and blend in nicely with the existing decking. I'll add another photo of that once the aging occurs.
