Potting Bench

The Whole Story:

Potting Bench
This one is mostly of cheap pine. The legs, I used some pressure treated 2 x 4's I had left over from another project. I would not normally do that but the "looks" of this one were not my top priority. However, it still looks pretty good.

I finished it with a couple coats of urethane just for no good reason. It's not outside and does not often get wet, but it didn't hurt and makes it easier to clean it up on the rare occassions I do.

I do use it to pot or repot plants once in a while, but it's biggest function is to keep all my garden stuff in some kind of order and it does that 365 days a year.

Another case of "reverse engineering" in the potting bin. Looked around and found the size I wanted before anything started, thus I was sure to make the top of the bench an appropriate size to utilize the bin I wanted. I drilled a whole in the plastic bin and in the wood cover to hang which ever one is not being used under the bench (see photos below - green bin hangs under center of work bench top). I also rounded off the corners and table edges for looks, safety and comfort (feels good when you run your hand along it).

The potting bench plan where most of this concept came from had one drawer. I could see no reason why I shouldn't have two, so I have two. Could have made a third but I decided it would be best for me if I left that area above the potting bin open for more height allowance when potting plants. Having used it a couple of years now, I would do the same again.
